The southern and western elements of the peninsula have effectively-designed plains, when the jap and northern parts are mountainous. The highest mountain in Korea is Mount Paektu (2,744 m), through which runs the border with China. The southern extension of Mount Paektu is actually a highland named Gaema Heights. This highland was generally lifted in the Cenozoic orogeny 파라곤솔루션 and partly included by volcanic matter. To the south of Gaema Gowon, successive higher mountains are located along the eastern coast of the peninsula.
